Trees Planted (2000-2011): 505,500

Justa Stoves Built (2001-2011): 3,900

Current Country-Wide Deforestation: 93%

Arboles y Agua para el Pueblo (AAP) produces over twenty-eight hard wood and fruit varieties in their nursery. These trees reforest land, and community members use them for agroforestry, household nutrition, lumber, firewood, shade, and enjoyment!

In 2001, Trees, Water & People and AAP joined with the community members of El Coco in the department of Santa Ana to develop a clean cookstove program. To reduce the fuelwood pressures on the area forests, we introduced the Justa stove, a fuel-efficient, wood-burning cookstove with a chimney that vents smoke out of the home. The Justa stove reduces consumption of fuelwood by 50-70% compared to traditional cooking methods.  Since 2001, the program has expanded into twelve other communities in the department of Santa Ana.
